The Xbox Game Pass is undeniably an amazing offer for gamers who like to enjoy multiple titles and try out games they wouldn’t have played if they weren’t included in a catalog. Given the quality of the service, it is obvious that Microsoft incurs astronomical costs to provide it with games from small developers, but also large third-party productions from the biggest publishers, not to mention titles from Xbox Game Studios of course.

More than a billion dollars spent annually on third-party games alone

Phil Spencer, the boss of Xbox, did indeed talk to Windows Central, the opportunity to confirm once again that the service is indeed viable, but to mention some of the colossal investment represented by the annual Game Pass.

We learn that Microsoft spends more than a billion dollars each year to integrate third-party games into its service. Of course, the productions of the major publishers must make a significant contribution to increasing this amount.

“ We have a service that is financially viable, that is to say, that makes money [...]. We have invested a lot of money in the market, more than a billion dollars a year to support third-party games that come into the Game Pass.”

In the end, there is nothing surprising about this. A few weeks ago, a major leak surfaced, revealing how much Microsoft has estimated for integrating third-party games into the Game Pass.

Redmond’s firm therefore expected to have to pay $100 million to see Assassin’s Creed Mirage land on the day of its release, $250 million for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, $300 million for Star Wars:Jedi Survivor and $250 million for Mortal Kombat 1.

Suffice to say that with such sums, the billion is quickly reached! Of course you’ve noticed, none of these games have yet integrated the Game Pass, but it’s a good bet that Microsoft has already had to spend a lot of money to integrate some big productions directly on the day of their release, as was the case with Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction, A Plague Tale: Requiem, PAYDAY 3, soon S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl and many more!
