Absurd Ventures: the first two worlds of the studio of Dan Houser

We also learn that two big names who worked at Rockstar Games have joined the studio.

In 2020, we learned some very sad news for the future of Rockstar Games and the tone of its future games, namely the departure of Dan Houser, co-founder of the studio and writer of all the GTAs released so far. His brother Sam, however, remains at the helm and he managed to bounce back by creating a new studio called Absurd Ventures, unveiled in June, whose motto will be to offer "narrative, philanthropy and ultra-violence." In other words, the programme will be joyful, but apart from a rather delirious video montage, we didn't know what this young entity was working on at the time. Recently, the Twitter / X account had once again shown signs of life and it is through this that have just been revealed two original licenses. However, these are not video games at the moment! We already knew that many types of media would be used, so this is not surprising.

The two worlds are called American Caper and A Better Paradise, respectively, and were unveiled like a Marvel Studios by swaying these titles and their logos. Knowing the satirical and irreverent side of Dan Houser's games, it's probably not without reason. The first stories to be told under these two titles will be released in 2024, and here are some brief synopses:

American Caper focuses on two normal, badly damaged American families in a world of corrupt business, inept politics and clumsy crime. American Caper will make its debut as a graphic novel illustrated by famous comic book artist Simon Bisley.
A Better Paradise is an existential thriller set in the near future. A 12-episode audio fiction series based on the universe of A Better Paradise is currently in production. Absurd Ventures partners with QCODE to co-produce the audio series.

More details about these two worlds, their lore and characters will soon be introduced in the coming months. Let's hope it's worth the wait.

In addition, two big names known to Rockstar Games fans have recently joined the ranks of Absurd Ventures as PC Gamer indicates. On the one hand we have Michael Unsworth, who was vice president of writing until last August and now serves as director of history and creative management. On the other hand, Lazlow Jones became executive producer, who held the role of writer and producer, in addition to being a NPC in Grand Theft Auto, before leaving Rockstar in August 2020. As you can see, the big names that made the history of the studio owned by Take-Two Interactive are once again gathering under the banner of Absurd Ventures.
