Scott Pilgrim Takes Off has always been thought to work as a limited series. But, judging by a post-generic scene integrated into the last episode, some reluctant fans still hoped that a sequel was still possible. However, according to Bryan Lee O'Malley and BenDavid Grabinski, it was not programmed. The two writers of the animated series explained, in the columns of the Rolling Stone website, that nothing had been planned for Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, or the other protagonists of this 16-bit version of Toronto in the coming years.

SCOTT PILGRIM TAKES OFF: NO SEASON 2 SCHEDULED FOR NETFLIX SERIES

END OF THE PILGRIMAGE

For those who haven't had time to catch up with all eight episodes of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, it's best to stay vague and avoid spoiling the "surprise" of this astonishing conclusion. But to sum up, yes, Grabinski and O'Malley have visibly tried to leave a kind of door open... which some interpret as a parody of the very principle of these post-generic scenes that have become commonplace in Hollywood in light of the success of Marvel Studios productions. In short, don't take this sequence as an announcement of anything. As things stand, Scott and Ramona are done with adventures.

"The series is self-contained at the moment. We love the result. We put everything we had in it. And we don't have any other ideas we could have used, it's all there. We should never say never, but in the current state of things, it would take at least fifty small miracles simultaneously to give birth to a second season. So we'll see."

Grabinski adds:

"We're not working on a sequel. We don't have any official plans on the subject."

If the other writer doesn't close the door on the idea of a possible comeback (probably because the project went well overall and the experience has been positive for the teams in charge of the series), Scott Pilgrim Takes Off doesn't need, at all, a second season to function as a complete project. Incidentally, Bryan Lee O'Malley announced the release of the graphic novel Worst World more than seven years ago, and Snotgirl, another project with artist Leslie Hung, was paused... three years ago. Perhaps it's time for the cartoonist to return to comics, having written his meta answer to the success of Scott Pilgrim, since he hasn't found his pencil case for over a decade.

Maybe it's time to finally invent new stories?
